EMERGENCY OR URGENCY

1.For the past 1 week, in almost all hospital in our country, i noticed that in the Accident and Emergency department were crowded with among worrying and frightening people about H1N1 seeking treatment.
2.The director general of Health, Tan Sri Ismail Merican adviced the public, for those who have mild cold symptom with good general condition, it is enough for them to rest at home and avoid or minimize public contact. The symptom of common cold includes runny nose, cough and sorethroat but there is no fever or just mild grade. For these patient, enough for them to drink plenty of water about 1-5 litre per day (1 large bottle of mineral water), rest and healthy diet which include fruit to boost your immune system.
3.As compared to patient with influenza-like illness(ILI), they may have fever (temperature > 38 degree celcius), headache, runny nose, cough, sorethroat, bodyache. Patient who are young, fit, healthy with no other medical illness who have ILI, treatment is usually, adequate antipyretic (paracetamol), and symptomatic treatment.
4.However, those who have other comorbidities, extreme age like children or baby and elderly, diabetic, heart disease, renal failure, asthmatic, pregnant lady, these are the people should seek immediate treatment at the hospital. they have to watch out the warning sign which are - breathing difficulty, reduced consciousness and fitting
5.So, it is advisable to public not too rush to hospital with only mild symptom. Treatment is simple, just enough rest, plenty of water and antipyretic if necessary. The more you have contact with the patient at A&E Hospital, the more you get risk exposure to H1N1.
6.Don't go to A&E Hospital at the midnight or early morning, expecting medical attention for only mild symptom, because the A&E is reserved for Accident and Emergency cases only. You should prioritize those who are more at need during this critical hour.
7. You have to know the different of emergency and urgency..
